Buying a used car? Planning a long trip?

Cars don't always tell you when something is wrong until it's too late. Whether you've just bought a second-hand car, are planning a holiday road trip, or just feel like the car isn't quite right, uncertainty can be stressful.

The "Old Way" involves booking a full service or waiting for an MOT failure to find out what's wrong. Maxamy Mobile Autocare offers the "Smart Way."

We provide a mobile Vehicle Health Check for a fixed price of £64.99. It is a fast, structured way to confirm whether your car is safe, roadworthy, and behaving as it should.

We come to you, perform a consistent 28-point inspection, and give you a clear report on the spot.

When Should You Book a Vehicle Health Check

A Vehicle Health Check is not just for breakdowns; it's for peace of mind. You should consider booking one if:

Buying a Used Car: You want a professional second opinion immediately after purchasing a private sale vehicle to establish a baseline.

Pre-Trip Safety: You are planning a long motorway journey or holiday and want to avoid a breakdown miles from home.

Weird Noises: You've noticed a new rattle, squeak, or hum but don't know if it's serious.

Between Services: Your annual service isn't due for months, but you want a safety snapshot now.

MOT Prep: You want to identify obvious fail items (like tyres or lights) before the official test to avoid a failure record.

Vague Handling: The car feels "loose" or different to drive, and you want a professional road test confirmation.

What Our Vehicle Health Check Covers

Maxamy Mobile Autocare follows a rigorous 28-point inspection structure across the main areas that impact safety and roadworthiness, followed by a road test and a written report.

We check key safety and cabin functions including seat belt condition and operation, ensuring you and your passengers are safe. We also inspect interior lights, verify the horn operation, and check for any malfunction warning lights on the dashboard.

We review major under-bonnet basics. This includes checking the engine oil level and looking for visible engine and gearbox oil leaks. We top up under-bonnet fluid levels where applicable, check the cooling system and fan operation, and inspect auxiliary drive belts (not the timing belt) for wear. We also review timing belt replacement guidance.

Vehicle Health Check FAQs

What is included in a Vehicle Health Check?

A Vehicle Health Check is a comprehensive safety and condition inspection covering the interior, engine bay, tyres, suspension, brakes, steering, exterior lights, wipers and washers, and exhaust condition. It also includes a short road test where possible, with any issues noted and explained clearly.

Is a Vehicle Health Check the same as a Service?

No. A service is scheduled maintenance that typically includes replacing engine oil and filters. A Vehicle Health Check is a visual and mechanical inspection designed to identify safety concerns, wear, leaks, and developing issues. It helps you understand what maintenance or repairs may be needed, but it does not include parts replacement as standard.

Is a Vehicle Health Check the same as an MOT?

No. An MOT is a legal test required annually for most vehicles, whereas a Vehicle Health Check is a private inspection for your peace of mind. A Health Check can help you prepare for an MOT by identifying problems early, but it does not replace the legal MOT certificate.

Does a Vehicle Health Check replace a Diagnostic Inspection?

Not usually. A Vehicle Health Check is a broad inspection of the vehicle’s overall condition, whereas a Diagnostic Inspection is used when there is a specific fault (such as a dashboard warning light) and may involve diagnostic scanning and targeted testing. If a fault requires deeper investigation, you will be advised accordingly.

Can you check my tyres, spare wheel, and wheel security during the inspection?

Yes. The check includes inspecting tyre condition on all four wheels, checking the spare wheel condition, and verifying wheel nut security where appropriate. This helps reduce the risk of unsafe tyres, uneven wear, and avoidable roadside issues.

Do you check fluids, belts, and cooling system operation?

Yes. Under-bonnet checks include inspecting and topping up fluid levels where needed, checking engine oil level, looking for engine and gearbox oil leaks, inspecting auxiliary drive belts (not the timing belt), and checking the cooling system including fan operation.

Can you carry out a Vehicle Health Check at my home or workplace?

Yes. Vehicle Health Checks can be carried out at your home or workplace as long as the vehicle is parked safely and there is suitable access around it. This makes it a convenient option for busy drivers who want peace of mind without visiting a garage.

What happens if you find a problem during the Health Check?

If any issues are found, they will be explained clearly along with the likely severity and next steps. You will then receive a no-obligation quote for any repairs required. If it’s a minor fix and can be safely completed during the visit, it may be possible to resolve it on the spot.
